"On the Outside Looking In": My Dramatic Tale of Trying to Attend SEMA Part I The Beginning

SEMA!

Some argue it's the ultimate car show, with featured automotive performance technology up to 3 years in advance from now. We are talkin' some of the most built up modded cars you have, neigh, WILL ever see!

Now, to attend SEMA, you cannot simply purchase tickets, you have to work for an Automotive Company or be approved media (there are other ways but for the sake of this blog....).

Yours truly USED to work for an automotive chain, but unfortunately I allowed my Navy PTSD to burn a bridge there, and so they shall remain nameless on this story. The point of me mentioning that was that I no longer work in the field, and so I cannot currently get into SEMA the legal conventional way.

I have been offered the chance to accompany others to SEMA, but the exchange of sexual favors was implied.
EXCEPT ONE INSTANCE when someone I was dating got me a "Spouse Pass". I was BEYOND EXCITED!!!!!! Me! Finally attending SEMA!!!!! EEEEEEEE!!!!!!! *Jumping up and down*

A week before the big event, my Knight in shining Armour-All revealed himself to be less than honorable.
In the course of a week I found out:

  • He had not told his family we were dating because he did not want to have to explain to his mother why he was dating someone who would surely be below her standards
  • He had another woman sleep over at his house (I came to drop something off and the car was there at 7am)
  • I caught him in the act of trying to pursue other options; he thought a love from the past was trying to get back together, he lied about not planning to get back in touch with her, and then tried to anyway. What he found out later is that it was a setup and he took the bait. He was a little more than furious about that....BUT! The truth was at stake.

Why am I telling you all this and what Hell does that have to do with precious innocent SEMA?
I am telling you because after that, I refused his SEMA pass and my chance to finally attend. Maybe it's not a big deal to you, but it was for me. I have been wanting to go for a long time and I finally had the chance. But this enlightening experience made me realize I need to get into SEMA on MY OWN MERIT, and not because someone else can 'get me in'.

So! There ya have it, folks. The preface to my quest to get into SEMA. I hope you will stay tuned for the good news once it comes. SEMA actually started its 4 day revolution yesterday for 2014; I have no Plan C to get in this year.
